Ohio University’s International Education Week 2016, from 13 to 18 November, has been eventful.
Dr. Elizabeth Edna Wangui was awarded the 2016 Faculty Award for Excellence in Global Engagement. Dr. Wangui joined the OU Geography Department in 2006 as an Assistant Professor and is now fully tenured as an Associate Professor. In her nomination statement, Dr Dr. Jana Houser, an Assistant Professor also in the Department of Geography stated that Edna is “ an incredibly approachable faculty member who mentors many students interested in gender and environmental dimensions of international development. Her enormous contribution to not only our department, but to International Studies, African Studies, and Women and Gender Studies here on campus is hard to adequately capture, and her work on gender, environment, and development in East Africa is internationally renowned.” Congratulations Dr Wangui!
Beatrice Selotlegeng was awarded the 2016 Alumni Award for Excellence in Global Engagement. Professor Steve Howard in his introduction to Beatrice’s award praised the recipient for her community leadership at large, her demonstrated and significant contribution to OHIO’s global mission, her dedication to promoting Africa, and her tireless work of advising and mentoring both international and domestic students on campus. Congratulations Beatrice!
